Citizen pruner training will teach you to make pruning cuts on public trees. Citizens will start by making simple cuts such as removing suckers growing from the base and stem of trees, dead wood and broken branches. Eventually, citizens will be trained how to make structural pruning cuts on young trees. These cuts will all be done with hand tools from the ground.
Training can include:
- Basic tree biology and diseases
- How to make good cuts and avoid long-term damage
- What are suckers and sprouts
- Basic tree structure
- How to use bypass pruning shears
- How to report to the city
- Safety and liability issues for volunteers
The April 7 class was canceled due to low participation.
