Shakopee Crime Prevention Inc. (SCPI) is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation whose mission is to provide financial resources to the Shakopee Police Department to help prevent, deter and fight crime in Shakopee.

All funds are used to provide direct support to the Shakopee Police Department for purchasing equipment, supporting special police programs and funding rewards and informant payments. Contributions from civic organizations, local residents and other interested parties are the Fund's only source of revenue.

We are pleased to offer scholarships (up to $3,000) toward the cost of drug or alcohol treatment. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, participants must:

• Live in Shakopee 
• Complete at least 30 days of treatment (residential or outpatient) at Five Stars Recovery Center, Sage Prairie, Haven Chemical Health Systems or Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge
• Be in good standing with the treatment center
• Provide monthly updates to the police department on treatment

This program is funded by drug and alcohol forfeiture cases. No tax dollars are used. 

During the past several years, the city has seen a growing number of vandalism reports involving graffiti. Research shows that the sooner graffiti is removed, the less chance there is of the graffiti returning.

City Code 130.11 states that property owners whose property has been vandalized by graffiti will need to remove the graffiti within 10 calendar days of receiving notice from the city. If it is not removed within 10 days, the city will remove the graffiti, and the property owner will be responsible for reimbursing the city for its actual cost. Prior to removal by the city, the property owner may submit a written request for a hearing before the City Council to show cause why the graffiti should not be removed.

Graffiti Prevention Tips

• Leave outside lights on from dawn until dusk.
• Give the illusion that someone is home by leaving lights or a TV on.
• Install a motion sensor on outdoor lights.
• Paint walls darker colors.

How to Report Graffiti

The “Take It To The Box” program promotes the safe use, storage and disposal of unneeded medication, prescription medication, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. A drug disposal box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at:

All drop-offs are anonymous. Items accepted include:

• Unused/expired prescription medicine
• Over-the-counter medications
• Animal medications
• Liquid medications (must be in leak-proof containers)
• Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia

Before disposing of medication into the box, please do the following:

• Leave medication in original container.
• Remove your name and personal information.
• Keep the name of the medication on the container.
• Keep the container closed.
• For illegal drugs and/or drug paraphernalia: Place in a paper bag or other container for privacy before dropping it into the disposal box.

PLEASE NOTE: The program does NOT accept needles, sharps or syringes. To dispose, we recommend placing syringes in an old detergent bottle or coffee can, duct taping the can shut and marking the outside with a sharpie that says "Used Syringes." Throw the bottle in the garbage, not the recycling.

The Take It To The Box program is funded by local law enforcement agencies and the Scott County Drug Prevention Task Force, ChooseNotToUse.

Peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants must have a City of Shakopee issued license before they can legally sell door-to-door in the community.

Peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants are defined as any person who:

• Peddler: goes door-to-door, street-to-street or place-to-place to sell and immediately deliver goods, wares, merchandise, or services transported with that person (e.g. ice cream truck)
• Solicitor: goes door-to-door, street-to-street or place-to-place (for commercial reasons) to obtain orders for goods, wares, merchandise, or services to deliver at a later time. (e.g. magazine sales)
• Transient Merchant: sets up a temporary and transient business in the city to sell goods, wares, or merchandise and occupies a building or lot to exhibit and sale wares (e.g. fireworks tent)

The city does not require a license for individuals or groups canvassing or soliciting for the purpose of charitable, religious, political or educational organizations if such an organization is registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State.

Solicitors and peddlers are limited to the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
