2024 City Council Election

The next general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. 

There are two seats open on the City Council for the 2024 election. The following candidates have filed to run for City Council and will appear on the November ballot:

Running for City Council

To run for City Council, candidates must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, at least 21 years old upon assuming office, and a resident of Shakopee for at least 30 days prior to the Nov. 5 general election. 

The mayor is elected to serve a four-year term as the chief executive officer of the city, presiding at City Council meetings as a voting member of the council, with no power of veto. The mayor receives an annual salary of $15,000. The four City Council members are elected to staggered, four-year terms. A councilor’s annual salary is $7,500.

City Council elections are non-partisan and candidates run for their seats at large. There is no city primary election; names of all candidates filing will appear on the November general election ballot.
