The Police Department is hosting a “virtual ride-along,” in which the public can follow Shakopee police officers via Twitter (#SPDtweetalong) as they respond to calls from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, Dec. 19.

People without a Twitter account can still follow the ride along by visiting www.twitter.com/ShakopeePD periodically though the evening.

The event is part of  the Global Tweet Along this Friday. More than 150 agencies covering 10 countries will also be participating, using the hashtag #poltwt on Twitter.

The virtual ride-along is the public's chance to follow a cop on a beat, as the Shakopee Police Department does not allow in-person ride-alongs for liability reasons.
