The City of Shakopee issues many different types of permits and licenses. Unless otherwise noted, permits and licenses can be purchased online using our ePortal for permits and licenses. Select your permit type for more information.

Fire Sprinkler Systems

Required for the installation of fire sprinkler systems.

The City of Shakopee has adopted MN State Building Code Chapter 1306. This chapter amends the thresholds within the MSBC and the MSFC for when fire sprinklers are required.

There are three types of permits:

More than 12 heads (plan review required)

Includes alterations, removal or addition of more than 12 heads on wet and dry fire sprinkler systems. Required documentation includes:

  • Plans
  • Hydraulic calculations
  • Product specification sheets

Up to 12 heads

Includes alterations, removal or addition of up to 12 heads on wet and dry fire sprinkler systems. Required documentation includes:

  • Plans or project narrative
  • Product specification sheets

Repair or replace

Includes repair or replacement of piping, control valves, and other system components other than sprinkler heads. Required documentation includes:

  • Plans or project narrative
  • Product specification sheets

How to apply

  1. Register for an account on our ePortal for permits and licenses.
  2. Submit your application and any supporting documentation within the ePortal.
  3. Pay application fees, if applicable, in the ePortal using credit card or electronic check.

Driver's Licenses

The Scott County Customer Service C enter, located at 400 Fourth Ave. W., Shakopee, provides driver’s license application and renewal, motor vehicle plates and title transactions, passport applications and renewal.

Business Licensing or Regulation

Currently the city does not license or regulate most businesses. For state or county licensing, contact the Minnesota Small Business Assistance Office at 651-556-8425.

Food and Health Licenses

If an individual business involves working with food, or if interested in obtaining a caterer's license, contact the Minnesota Department of Health.

Charitable Gambling Licenses

Contact the Gambling Control Board at 651-639-4072 for information.
